Town hall in Kamień Pomorski
The Town Hall in Kamien Pomorski is one of the few remaining Gothic town halls in Western Pomerania. Its history dates back to the 14th century, when the oldest, western part of the building was erected. It is an example of a medieval Gerichtslaube - a small building with administrative and judicial functions. In later centuries, the town hall was expanded, and its current shape is the result of several phases of construction - from early to late Gothic.
The most valuable elements are the brick walls with sharp-arched blends, the arcade on the eastern side with a richly decorated vault, the Late Gothic gables and the bell turret. The interior is notable for its vaulted cellars, including former dungeons.
The town hall survived war damage, although it burned down in 1945. It was rebuilt in the 1960s, adapting it to serve as the seat of municipal authorities. Today it is one of the symbols of the Old Town and a testament to the splendor of medieval Kamień Pomorski.
