Bishop's Palace in Kamień Pomorski - a Renaissance residence next to the cathedral
Vis-à-vis the Gothic Kamień Cathedral rises the Renaissance-Late Gothic Bishop's Palace. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when the first seat of the Kamień bishops was established here. It was expanded in the following centuries, taking its present shape of a letter "L" in the 16th century.
From this period come two ornate gable elevations with masquerade decoration, among the few of their kind in Western Pomerania. The interiors have preserved, among others, a Renaissance vestibule and a Baroque staircase. After the Reformation, the palace passed into the hands of the Protestant cathedral chapter.
For centuries it served as the residence of church hierarchs, later it was privately owned. After the war it housed a library, now the seat of Catholic institutions. It is a valuable monument of Kamień Pomorski, a witness to the past eras of this city.
