Bagicz airfield - silent testimony to the turbulent history
On the outskirts of Kolobrzeg, in Bagicz, are the remains of a once bustling military airfield. Its history dates back to 1935, when a base for German bombers was established. During World War II, various Luftwaffe units were stationed here.
After the war, the airport fell into the hands of the Red Army. The Russians created a huge, self-sustaining base here, expanding the infrastructure. Since the 1960s, jets began to land here - first MiG-21 fighters, then MiG-23. Radar and anti-aircraft defense systems were also deployed near Bagiche.
In 1991, Soviet troops left Poland, and with them Bagich. Today it's a ghost airport, with post-Soviet hangars and a concrete runway still standing. It is a place that remembers the days of the Cold War and bears witness to the turbulent fate of these lands. The Bagicz airfield is a must-see attraction for lovers of military history.
Lotnisko Bagicz, 78-111 Bagicz
An attraction for all history lovers.
